Naples Web Design | At Your Service SWFL

Sunday, January 4th, 2009
A quick look at a basic brochure type website we created earlier in 2008, “At Your Service SWFL” is a homewatch and concierge service in Naples, Fort Myers, Estero and Bonita Springs.

The client hired us as Naples web design experts and was delighted with the finished project. We also created the brand and logo design for “At Your Service SWFL”.

“The logo design process was very easy. You always answer my e-mails and calls quickly, and get back to me right away even on weekends and evenings. I like that the studio is very flexible, provides suggestions, and is open to input from the client. The response time is very good, and the designs were terrific.” - John Meehan, Owner

Logo Design Case Study | Bayfront Bistro

Friday, October 24th, 2008
This was an exciting design project for us to receive, as this client is soon to be the most popular restaurant in our area. It is currently under construction, and will be part of a $20 million Luxury Yacht Club & Marina property. The Brief The imagery in the logo was an important aspect to ensure that it gave off the “waterfront” feeling. The restaurant will be mainly visited by the large number of tourists that visit this area each year, and so the identity of the restaurant has to feel “vacation” like, and give off the sense of “holiday destination”. In addition, the property is going to have a large sign outside facing the water, so that boaters passing by the marina will be able to see the logo, along with the Yacht Club logo which is already up. Snook Bight Yacht Club & Marina Logo The restaurant also spends a large amount on print advertising , so the restaurant logo design had to be striking and keep in line with the overall Yacht Club brand that has already been firmly established in the area. Ideas and Concepts The Yacht Club is a luxurious membership only property, with the restaurant open to everyone. The logo design for Bayfront Bistro had to give off the “luxury” feel, but also had to be somewhat casual to ensure that visitors understood the type of restaurant it is. It’s not too fancy, but it’s not “walk in from the beach with your bathing suits on” either. So, the design had to portray both upscale, yet casual. Immediately, I had my first concept. Wine glass and palm trees. The wine glass shows the class, and the palm trees give it a relaxing touch. The two seemed to fit the balance I was looking for in this imagery and so I began to sketch a few concepts around this idea. Bayfront Bistro Logo Design Sketches 15 hours of traveling to Europe is a great time to get some logo design sketches done! So, as I developed the wine glass and palm tree concept, it soon began to take shape. If you notice from the sketches, I did have one idea that I thought was pretty interesting; Using the wine glass shape as the “y” in Bayfront. Some other concepts that I worked on are shown below. The client sent each concept to a large group of people, as a small piece of market research, and most seemed to favor Logo #1 quite a bit. Second in line was the concept discussed above. Bayfront Bistro Logo Design Concepts Logo 2 was my personal favorite mainly due to the fact that it is much more subtle in its imagery and it is a more creative, and abstract way of presenting the message. The idea in Logo 2, is that there are 3 elements displayed…united into one mark. Wind, Sail, Water. These three elements combined give off a slight “sea shell” image, adding to the “waterfront”, “beach” idea. Logo 3 was another way of using the wine glass and palm trees, but the client decided that the word “Bayfront” could not be split up in that way. So, I developed the original concept further, and we decided that it would be wise to have a horizontal version as well as the vertical version for the format of the logo . Bayfront Bistro Logo Design Concepts Once we had the final logo nailed down, I mocked up how the logo would look applied in different ways. Here it is added to a restaurant building as signage, along with a sample menu. Logo Composition (Part 3) - Proportions

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008
Last week we discussed “Symmetry” as Part 2 of our seven part series on Logo Design Composition.

This week:

Part 3: Proportions

The relative size of the elements

Differences in size between the individual elements are often used to create a contrast. However, you should pay attention to not force the smaller element into the background.

All elements combined should result in a harmonical image.

It is often helpful to use a grid. For example, an element’s width in the logo could be used as the base of such a grid. To achieve a harmonical image, you could use half the width of the first element as the appropriate spacing from other objects or a scripture.

Another example is the logo’s “safety clearance“, or the space around a logo that should always be left blank. Considering a logo that consists of a figure part and a text part you could use the width of the figure part to define the safety clearance around the entire logo.

Take care when you design a logo with different proportions of the elements: The smaller part must be easily recognizable or legible also when the logo is used at a small size! Logos should still work down to a size of 2 cm

Next week: Part 4 : Combination

Website Launched - GoDartFrog.com

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008
Yet another logo design client / web design client.

We introduced this project when we finished the creation of the logo, business cards and tri fold brochures.

The overall identity of Dart Frog Powerboat Charters is unique, exciting and interesting. There are many boat charter and boat rental services in the market, but with this new logo and identity, Dart Frog really stands out from the crowd!

With the use of some flash animation, the website continues the unique brand of the company, and with a custom interactive map for users to read some local info on all of the areas serviced, the website is much more than a simple online brochure.

Website Launched - At Your Service SWFL

Sunday, April 20th, 2008
Today, we launched another new website (yes, we know it is Sunday!). Another client that we had previously designed a logo for also, just like the site we launched on Friday for Victory Marketing Agency.

The client is “At Your Service”, and they are providing a professional concierge and homewatch service for the Southwest Florida area.

The design and development process of both the logo design project and the web design project was enjoyable, and the client is delighted with the end results.

We received some kind and much appreciated comments from the client that can be read here

Logo Composition (Part 2) - Symmetry

Last week we discussed “Format” as Part 1 of this 7 part series on Logo Design Composition.

Part 2: Symmetry

Humans perceive symmetry as harmonical. Visual things that are symmetrical provide a calming effect, and we recognize them more easily. Symmetry signalizes a form of stability. This is why we often use symmetry unconsciously in logo design.

Symmetry can be utilized in many kinds of ways:

Fourfold - that is, three times at angles of 90° - to create a symmetrical logo. You can also just mirror an element horizontally or vertically, so the elements occur twice.

Sometimes, symmetry is used to create an effect of reflection, e.g. the reflection on water or a shiny floor.

Logo Design Composition (Part 1) - Format

We start with Part 1 of this 7 part series on Logo Design Composition.

Each week I will write a small post for each part to help those of you unfamiliar with logo design composition and the overall importance of this logo design aspect in the creation and development process of an identity.

Logo Design Composition is the organization of the elements contained within the design, and how they are used in their surroundings. Each part of this series will deal with the following: Format, Symmetry, Proportions, Combination, Distortion, Colors, and Spacial Design.

Part 1 : Format

The fomat of the logo can provoke certain impressions and associations. As with most design work, there is a basic grid outlined for a logo, and from the original grid there are 3 standard formats that a logo can be formatted in.

1. Portrait
2. Landscape
3. Quadratic

The aspects that can determine which format you choose for your logo design depends on the intended use of the logo (print, online, interactive etc), and the area around the logo (the elements that interact with the design).

The format of a logo determines how the logo will be used in the various media. Often, the identity takes on two different forms depending on the medium it is published on. The logo is created in both a portrait format and a landscape format.

Logo Design Naples | At Your Service

Saturday, March 29th, 2008
We have just completed a logo design project for a new client, “At Your Service”. We enjoyed working with the client and we are all happy with the finished product.

The brief was as follows:

We’d like a logo that is modern and catchy, and gives the client a sense of strength and trustworthiness. Strong and bold.

This logo design project was slightly more challenging than a normal project, as we needed to incorporate a lot of text into the overall full logo design. After many sketches, we came up with a few concepts:

Our immediate favorite was the first one. It was modern, clean, and professional. The use of the bow tie imagery seemed to capture what the company is all about; Concierge and Homewatch Service.

The client chose the first one, and after a few revisions from them, we ended with a nice logo that gives the new company a strong, trustworthy identity.

Logo Re-Design | Meditherm

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

We are currently working on a web design project for 2 websites for this client, and included in the project was the re-design of the company logo. The client wanted to keep their branding and recognition in their logo, but they needed it to have a much more modern look and feel.

So, adding some rounded edges, a better gradient on both icons, and remove some of the lines from the old logo, we injected new life into this old logo.

It looks even better in our opinion as a mark above the text.

Logo Design | Victory Marketing Agency

Thursday, March 13th, 2008
We have just completed the logo design project for Victory Marketing Agency, a new event staffing company in the area doing business nationally.

Here is the case study:

We met with the client in person and discussed the logo design brief. Here is a summary from the client on what the logo design should be:

“Simple and clean. I am going for a very professional yet fun and young image”

After a one hour meeting, we had developed a good idea of what the client’s business was about, what he wanted to achieve and what image the logo needed to present to his market. We created a document detailing the information for our logo designers and artists, and got to work.
We brainstormed one Friday morning, coming up with sketches and ideas for inspiration for this logo design. Here are a few ideas we came up with, and how they were developed.

1. VMA initials: The client wanted to see one concept using the intials of the company as the main image of the logo. The letter “VMA” are very similar in linear style, so we displayed them together with a custom font. Adding a slight gradient to the lettering and giving it a black background added that professional feel to the logo.

2. Circle mark, universal sign for victory: The inspiration for this logo came from the universal symbol of victory; the index finger and the middle finger pointed up together turned forward. We created a minimal and modern design for this symbolsim and enclosed it in a circle to balance the overall mark of the logo.
The victory symbolism also used the shape of the “V” in victory so it was used as an image with double purpose.

3. Font, and style: The third concept was a more text based identity, using a more stylish typeface.

The client chose the circle mark logo with the company name below as the preferred logo design to bring into the revision stages.

We agreed that this logo was the one that matched the brief perfectly and would allow us to really develop the concept into something special through revisions.

After more development and concept ideas came together, we hit it right on the mark!We further enhanced the concpet of the victory symbol and the large “V”, and then we added another piece of inspiration to this concept.

Victory Marketing Agency will be a leading event staffing agency, so…with this in mind, we started to think about events, and staff, and what imagery and inspiration we could pull from this service.

The victory symbol of the two fingers, along with the “V”, provided the platform for the final piece to be added to the logo. Spotlights are a popular feature at events of all sizes, and instantly recognizable when beaming into a night sky. We added a bit of gradient styling to the logo and voila! We had a subtle spotlight symbol! The logo was done and the client was very happy with the outcome.
